Emmi Kauppila is a social scientist and PhD Student at Tampere University. Her PhD project explores the lived experiences of families affected by gambling harm, illuminating the barriers they face in seeking help. In addition, she serves as a lecturer at Tampere University, teaching a thesis seminar to undergraduate students.

Her work history includes a research position at A-Clinic Foundation, an NGO specialized in harm reduction. There, she contributed to the BOOST project, which aims at enhancing community-based best practices for treating communicable diseases among people who use drugs. Additionally, she has played an active role in developing regional support systems for the prevention and treatment of gambling-related harm. Previously, she has conducted research on digital marketing of alcohol, gambling, and HFSS foods, focusing on national and international regulatory approaches in digital media.
